Listed at 79.00 USD. 1950s Ronson Vanguard Butane Lighter Pocket Lighter Purse Lighter Early Production Model with Original Box Very Good to Excellent ConditionThis item is a circa early 1950s Ronson Vanguard Lighter with the Original Presentation Box in Very Good to Excellent Condition. The Ronson Vanguard was the first butane lighter designed and patented by Ronson in 1950. This early production model features a removable fuel tank which would be exchanged at the nearest Ronson dealership for a new one when the original tank was empty. Later models with the same exterior design appeared in 1954 with a removable tank that could be recharged with butane at home. Coincident with this design change Ronson also designed and produced the first butane canister for use with these newer lighters. This particular Vanguard is in very good to excellent condition. The black high and low gloss enamel that surrounds the lighter is in excellent condition with no chips, nicks or scratches, and the center silver cartouche is clean (not engraved). All other exposed surfaces are finished in high polish chrome. This piece is hallmarked on the front snuffer yoke "RONSON". On the bottom it is hallmarked "RONSON VANGUARD" and "RONSON - NEWARK, NJ.USA - US PATENTS RE. No.19023 and 2,481,195". The RE19023 reflects the patent reissue number for the single action "spark-light-extinguish" patent date of 1934. The 2,481,195 patent reflects the first issue of the butane canister design. This lighter has a new flint, and it sparks. Because of the initial design, refilled canisters are not available. This piece is being sold as a vintage collectible, rather than as a functional lighter. It may be retrofitted as a petrol lighter by a hobbyist with the proper skill and knowledge. It measures 1 3/4 inches wide by 2 3/8 inches tall by 9/16 inch thick. The presentation box is in excellent condition with no scratches, dents or cracks. Note: Due to the 8+ ounces weight of this lighter and presentation box shipping has been adjusted accordingly. This early 1950s Ronson Vanguard Lighter would make a terrific addition to someone's collection of Mid Century Tobacciana, an eye catching display piece, or a thoughtful gift to a Ronson collector.
