A cone shaped silver plated candle snuffer with a delicate twisted handle finished with a hook. It's also referred to as an "extinguisher" or "douter". This useful device was patented in 1776 in England by Christopher Penchbeck the Younger. Used to extinguish a burning candle wick safely without soot or wax being blown onto a table or wall. In good vintage condition. Some tarnish, as expected. Measures: 4 1/2" (11.5 cm) long 7/8" (2.25 cm) x 1 7/8" (4.5 cm) at snuffer
