Very Good, with damage to bottom right corner and three inch tear on left side, and small tear on right Crudely printed on cheap pulp paper comic or vinegar valentines were introduced in 1858 by New York City printer and publisher John McLaughlin. The designs featured caricatures of people along with sarcastic verses, frequently vulgar and often vicious. In 1870 American cartoonist Charles Howard introduced similar comic designs called Penny Dreadfuls, because they sold for a penny.
