Not only are new adjusting sleeves selling for $70-$80, you also have to guess which one is going to solve your problem ( there are 9 to choose from ) . You'll hear from the occasional "expert" that shims are the incorrect way to solve the problem, or they're not safe, etc etc. When you think about all the guns that are being shot regulary while looser than a cheap "wh**e you'll understand that the quick fix shim method doesn't create an issue. There's an old saying "If it's stupid and it works, then it's not stupid." When we repair 1897's in our shop we swap the adjusting sleeves because we have a complete selection of all 9 or them.
