This full-size, Mechanix Illustrated magazine plan along with Walter Musciano's construction instructions is one of only two sets of UC PLANS for the venerable PBY CATALINA from World War II that I have ever come across. The PBY rescued untold numbers of downed American Navy pilots during World War II as well patrolling the East Coast successfully looking for German submarines and dropping depth charges on them. The color picture is from the label of an Airfix plastic model kit. You can find many, many different color schemes (such as I show) by either searching for such plastic kits that are frequently for sale on eBay or a web search of a PBY Catalina still in use as firebomber. All of the necessary parts patterns for building your u-control model are on these Mechanix Illustrated PLANS. The model has a 35" span & 160" of area & called for .049s such as Cox BABY or GOLDEN BEEs. I put a yardstick over the plans to show what I mean by the term "full size." Some are unaware of the fact that the old Mechanix Illustrated sold all of their model plans in full size and put all of the magazine construction articles on the sides of the building plans.
